A conference spotlighting methods for dramatically improving today's web site user experience
Students that have done projects involving user interface design drawing upon user centered design principles, usability testing, card sorting exercises, and field studies are encouraged to submit posters for the Student Poster Session at Internet User Experience 2008.
About the Student Poster Session
This year, the Internet User Experience conference will feature a student poster session for the first time. This poster session gives students the opportunity to showcase their skills in user-centered design or usability projects such as usability testing or card sorting experiments. In turn, event attendees will have the chance to meet future usability professionals.
- The poster session will be held during lunch and the reception on Tuesday, April 1st, 2008.
- Each poster will be displayed throughout the day.
- Poster authors are encouraged to accompany their posters during the morning, lunch and afternoon breaks.
- One author for each accepted poster will be able to attend the Internet User Experience presentations on this day at no charge (if there are multiple authors, please specify which is to receive the free session attendance offer).
Submission Requirements
Please Submit:
- A short written description of your project, no more than a page in length.
- A full-size draft of your poster in PDF format. You will be required to bring a physical copy of the poster to the Internet User Experience conference.
General Guidelines:
- Please send submissions to the Student Poster Coordinator, Michael Beasley, at submissions@miupa.org. He will then route the submission to the appropriate reviewer.
- The deadline for entry is March 1, 2008.
- All submissions must include a title and author information (including school affiliation).
- Submissions must not contain or cite proprietary or confidential material.
- All electronically submitted materials should be in PDF format.
- Only posters from currently enrolled students will be accepted.
- Posters may be submitted by individual students or by teams of students.
- The poster must describe a student's or group of student's own work.
- We will not review late submissions.
Poster Session Guidelines:
- Posters should have the approximate dimensions 36 by 48 inches and be able to stand upright on its own. We recommend the use of a tri-fold poster board.
- We encourage students to prepare handouts and/or business cards for interested attendees.
- These materials can be attached to the poster or placed next to it.
- We will not supply electricity or any electronic equipment.
Submission Review
Posters will be reviewed by members of a review committee comprised of representatives from the University of Michigan, Washtenaw Community College, and Michigan State University. Submissions will be routed to the representative from the student's school, whenever possible.
Reviewers will judge whether the poster presents work of interest to the usability community and whether the presentation is clear and professional. Students will be notified if their submission has been accepted by March 16.
